Located at 3519 Owl Hollow Road in unincorporated Pineview in Perry County TN, Thyme Wisper Herb Shop & Tea Room was created by Thyme Wisper, a Master Herbalist and Nutritionist, to facilitate teaching people how to live and be healthy on a practical, day-by-day basis, so that they can be empowered to take responsibility for their own health. Built by local construction, the focus was placed on ecology, sustainability and local utilization. Electricity is provided by a solar power system installed by SolarTek Energy of Nashville, who also installed the solar water collection system for the hot water tank. Solar is also used to charge batteries for the DC water pump for the well that was installed by Gentry Drilling Company out of Leoma. Silverline windows were installed by Mid-TN- Siding & Windows out of Waverly. Flame View wood stoves built by Amish in Canada are used in the winter for heat, hot water and cooking. Insulation is from recycled denim. Floors are cork. Knotty pine wood from Quality Metals covers walls and ceilings. Red Cedar Siding and metal roofing are also from Quality Metals. Eco Fin stain, a soy bean oil based, non outgassing, stain from Sun Frog, was used inside on the knotty pine and outside on the Red Cedar siding. The result is an ECO and totally off-grid small building that accommodates 8 guests inside and, when weather permitting, 8 more on the back screened-in porch for tea and easily converts to a spacious workshop area for 8 participants.
Artisans in Perry County have been invited to display their craft items that are appropriate for a tea room, garden, herbs or the beautiful natural landscape. Thus far cosies have been knitted for tea pots by The Mobius Knitter and walking sticks will be available for sale from W M Walking Sticks & Canes.
